OUR PROGRAM – GRAMEEN PROMOTORAS
Grameen PrimaCare has launched a second pilot health promotion program called Grameen Promotoras (GP). The GP program hopes to improve the health and well-being of participants by using a community health worker approach in a non-clinical setting.
We aim to show improvements in health, increased health care access and system use, and increased knowledge surrounding health-related topics critical to the participants themselves and their families. Program highlights include:
Access to Basic Health Screenings
- Blood pressure
 - Diabetes risk assessment
 - Sugar level testing (HbA1c)
 
Health Conversations
Promotoras deliver short educational workshops during the weekly GA Center Meetings. Presentations cover a variety of topics including:
- Nutrition
 - Physical activity
 - Mental health
 - Health literacy
 - Parenting
 - Women’s health
 
Health System Navigation and Referrals
Promotoras provide assistance in identifying and utilizing existing community resources. Key referral areas and support include:
- Primary care physicians
 - Breast cancer screenings
 - Social services
 - Dental services
 - Vision services
 - Women’s health
 - Management of health-related costs and bills
 - Negotiated low-cost diagnostic tests and medications
