Where are you originally from (born and raised)?

I am a Garifuna, born and raised in Honduras.

Tell us a little bit about your background… what did you do before joining GPC?

Since I was very young I have dedicated myself to working for the benefit of my community (Trujillo, Colón, Honduras). All of my work has always had the same focus on ” Community Development,” because that is what I really love.

When I arrived in the United States, I went through the difficulties and barriers that any immigrant encounters, including doing work that I did not feel comfortable with because I felt it wasn’t the right fit — until I managed to get back into a job in which I feel happy and glad. Being a promotora brings me back to what I love – working for the community.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Having the opportunity to motivate, raise awareness, empower others, and being able to keep close to the reality that our people are going through. I also like that I know that I can contribute to their lives.

If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?

I would visit the Island of San Vicente, to better understand the origins of my race (Garifuna).

What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?

Culinary art — I love to cook.
